Flute: Nick Bhattacharjee
Nick began his musical studies at Chetham’s School of music in 1989 where he studied flute with Alan Lockwood.  He went on to The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where, after three years of principal study flute with Richard Chester MBE, he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree.  Nick then moved to the Birmingham Conservatoire where he continued his flute under the guidance of Kevin Gowland.  After two years he graduated with a Master of Arts with Distinction.

As a professional flautist, he has played with various orchestras all over the world, including America, Austria, Germany, France, Holland and Majorca.  After leaving the Conservatoire, Nick was invited to join the Orchestra of the Swan based in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he currently holds the position of Co-Principal flute.  In August 2000 he was invited by the European Opera Centre to Switzerland for the Festival of Tibor Varga.  He played Principal flute with the orchestra and performed not only in an additional concert with the other principals, but in a duet with the Italian soprano Yvetta Tannenberger marking the end of the festival.  He continues to play with many different orchestras all over the country on a freelance basis.  Nick plays on a ‘Brannen Cooper’ flute, with a ‘La Fin’ gold/silver mix headjoint!
